Yesterday was a good day not just because the weather was good...It also showed that with a little bit of luck and some genuine skill--things can go your way.
My luck began when I woke up early and got moving. I was unlucky that Circle K in Plant City was doing an audit at the same time I was scheduled. But, also good luck that I was able to get out of there.
Skill comes to the forefront when you ask me about Roadie.
I couldn't get them to take me at first--but after trying 10 times the lines finely turned green. and, a minute or two later it said that I was accepted. Roadie is run by an algorithm--you have to get in to be in. Getting in is not always a foregone conclusion.
But, I have something going for me with this company; I have 5 badges. Four or five stars over 5-10 runs and over 524 gigs. A Rockstar Badge, a 5000 Miler Badge, a Rapid Roadie Badge, a Huge Hauler Badge, and an Around Towner Badge.
Yesterday went EXACTLY as planned. I called everyone before I got there and I got into each place. Only one did I deliver to the front office. And, a phone call answered is the difference between a good day and a bad day. My 2nd stop was at a house that looked like someone was moving i--but no one was home and the pocket from Best Buy had to be signed for. I called and Axel answered--he was going to be home in 15 minutes--but I couldn't wait that long. So I asked him where he would like his package put and weather he wanted me to sign for it--in lew of him being there. He did and there is a place on the app to put down what the receiver of the package wants. I used this to my advantage by not having to wait for Axel to home.
The rest of my drop offs were pretty unspectacular. One I had to drive from the resident fence to the delivery fence--the one with the machine that tells you what number to press in for each name to get in. I had her on the phone the whole time and found her house in the back.
I've been driving professionally since January 3, 2001. (That's just a firm way of saying I was paid to drive.) I drove for Consolidated Air Express (now known as DHL)
I was assigned a van and would drive the same one almost every day. (We started with CBs)
I've had many different driving jobs--Courier Express, LaserShip, USPack Parts, Speeedy (yes, 3 Es) and many Pizza places. I started with Uber and Uber Eats and Lyft. They didn't like the van I am driving--as soon as I get a new mode of transportation this will change.
I started this Blog with Luck vs. Skill--YOU NEED BOTH.
